The Norwegian word “Bryggen” means dock, and it refers to the Hanseatic commercial buildings lining up in the harbor of Bergen. Bryggen is on the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites, as it has been a prominent part of Norwegian history. It has been the centre of commercial Hanseatic activities in Norway since the 14th century, and today it is the home to many museums, shops, pubs and restaurants.
